In front of plenty of interested spectators, the first challenge task was performed in the mini excavator, which was to collect rugby balls balancing on cylinders of different heights and drop them into a drum.  The operator had to collect 3 balls before handing over to their Crusader teammate, who under the operator’s direction, had to collect only one rugby ball.  Needless to say some Crusaders (and even some operators) stumbled at this first hurdle!

Once both had completed these tasks, they then had to pass rugby balls through a hoop. . The rugby boot was on the other foot in this challenge, so to speak, and it tested the playing prowess of some of the competing machine operators.  These events were also timed and the overall winners were chosen based on the fastest combined times.

The quickest two teams faced off in a grand final with Cameron Moir of Paul Smith Earthmoving and Crusaders lock Luke Romano claiming the win over Sam Rihari of Road Metals and hooker Cody Taylor. The fastest individual operator was awarded to Tim Tihema of Isaac Construction.

Gough Cat Marketing Communications Manager, Richard Clark says, “This event is a nice way to leverage our global sponsorship of the Crusaders with an evening that’s competitive but fun, while featuring a Cat product group in front of a good selection of key customer influencers.”
