The second major factor of GET management is the machine operation. The skill and training of the operator make a huge difference in the performance and wear life of all GET components.
For example, if a loader is cleaning a quarry floor or the area around a pile of material, the operator needs to know how to correctly set the bucket positioner, or leveller. If not , he may wear out the bottom of the bucket instead of the teeth or edge – an expensive error that can be avoided with a little operator know how.
Operators also need to be aware that different types of GET should be used in different ways. A standard edge on a motor grader needs one moldboard cast angle; where as the Caterpillar Grader Bit System demands a different angle.
All GET manufacturers offer operating recommendations. Caterpillar offers a range of GET operating information and also provides training programs thru Cat Dealers. Talk to your local GoughCat Parts and Service Sales Rep or your local Branch Manager.
Keep an eye out for Step 3, Maintenance.
