The Gough Institute of Training hosted the running of the Gough Cat 2017 Apprentice of
the Year competition on Wednesday 29th November.
A total of six apprentice Heavy Diesel Technicians were involved in the competition:

  • Jake Poole - Hamilton Branch
    · Martin Turek - Mount Maunganui Branch
    · Jamie Rankin - Nelson Branch
    · Brad Pearcy - Christchurch Branch
    · Billy Brown - Central Otago
    · Matt Beagle - Dunedin Branch

  • The competition commenced with each candidate providing a 10 minute presentation from
a pre-determined list of subjects. Following this, a total of five practical assessments were
run on Machine and Engine Diagnostics, Reusability of Components, Data Mining and a
    one hour theory exam.
An experienced assessment team headed up by Chris Lord from Caterpillar Global Dealer
Learning was used to judge the candidates performance against a set of exacting
    standards.
After an intensely fought competition, a scoring range of less than 3% separated the six
    candidates.
Martin Turek of Mount Maunganui emerged as the overall competition winner. Martin
will now represent Gough Cat at the 39th Annual Dealer Top Apprentice Programme to be
held at Caterpillar Melbourne in March 2018.

Congratulations to Martin and his fellow candidates on their efforts. We wish Martin well
    for the finals in March.
